About Abbott Property Management

Abbott Property Management was set up by Lyndsay Abbott and commenced trading in February 1980. Lyndsay’s background was in general administration and organisation. From the outset, the ethos of the company has been to offer a professional service on a personal basis. At the time there was very little law governing lettings but, as legislation was introduced to protect both tenants and landlords, the company incorporated this and has kept abreast of all legal requirements as they come into practice to ensure the continuance of a professional service.

Very quickly, it became necessary to take on employees and we now have a staff of five. It was decided that it would be beneficial to belong to ARLA, the professional body governing letting agents, as to do so would be testimony of the high standards which we aim to achieve. After stringent checks and examinations, our membership was approved in 2000. In 1995, Sally Hendry (Lyndsay’s younger daughter) joined the company and now concentrates on accounts and block management. We moved to our current premises in Station Road in 1999 as, with expansion, it became necessary to have more office space and a shop front to provide easy access for our customers.

In 2006, Clair Foster (Lyndsay’s elder daughter) also joined the company and became our marketing manager in addition to participating in the everyday running of the business, so Abbott Property Management is now well and truly a family concern. Indeed, Lyndsay, Clair and Sally are all directors of the company. However, we could not manage without the assistance of the other two valued members of staff, one of whom (Debbie Rhodes, our lettings manager) has been with us for over ten years. Our most recent colleague is Dawn Garratt, who is a general administration assistant.

We have seen enormous changes in the lettings industry since we started, which have not only given rise to a considerable increase in paperwork and necessary expertise but have also regulated the business to give greater protection of all concerned. We are celebrating 30 years in the business and look forward to a continued and successful future.
